What's a live house?

Live houses are the music venues of Japan. They are the places you go to see live music. When you talk about seeing a show you talk about a live.

For example, "Whose live are you going to see tonight?"  Or, "I'm heading to a live."

How to get tickets?

Same-day tickets are available in many of the smaller venues at the door.

These are called toujitsu-ken (当日券).

Of course, if you want a guaranteed ticket to see your favorite artist check the bands official page for ticket information ahead of time. (Recommended). Tickets may be available through the site, but more likely available through one of the major ticket vendors.

At the door.

Concert-goers note, most live houses charge an additional ¥500 (up to ¥1,000) at the door for a "drink ticket". This is non-negotiable. They will not let you in the venue if you didn't prepare the cash ahead of time. Drink tickets can be exchanged for a soft drink or alcoholic drink.

When your not attending a one-man (a single band show vs. a show with opening acts or one with several bands) the receptionist will ask you what band are came to see. They will mark the bands name to ensure the band gets their fair share of the ticket proceeds.
